第59回グラミー賞の受賞者が発表で吹きあれたアデル旋風

アメリカ音楽シーンの最高の栄誉とうたわれるグラミー賞授賞式が2017年2月12日（日）ロスアンジェルスのステイプルズ・センターで行われた。

1年間の音楽シーンを総括する賞として世界中の目が注がれるグラミー賞だが、今年の第59回目は、とにかくアデル旋風が吹き荒れたと言っていいだろう。

アデルは、最優秀レコード賞（Record Of The Year)、最優秀アルバム賞（Album Of The Year)、最優秀楽曲賞（Song Of The Year）という主要4部門中の3部門を制し、ノミネートされていた5部門すべてで受賞するという快挙を成し遂げた。

授賞式自体がアデルのパフォーマンスで幕を開け（奇しくも、賞を総なめした「Hello」が今年のグラミーのオープニングナンバーだった）、それのみならず、ショウ半ばでのジョージ・マイケル・トリビュートでも2回目のパフォーマンスを行い「ファスト・ラブ」を歌ったが、演奏を一旦止めて歌い直すというハプニングもあったもののこのトリビュートのステージは、今年のグラミーの山場の一つであったことは確かだ。

そのアデルに負けず、パフォーマンスの面で強い印象を与えたのは、今やアメリカを代表するエンターテナーともいえるブルーノ・マーズだった。自身の楽曲を演奏したステージはもちろんのこと、サプライズで出演したプリンス・トリビュートのステージでは、プリンスが蘇ったかと見まがういで立ちでギターをかき鳴らし、強い印象を残した。

それ以外にも見所は多く、初のイギリス人の司会となるジェームズ・コーデンも見どころといえただろう。5年もの間グラミーの司会を務めたL.L.クールJに代わって今年の司会になったのは、「カープールカラオケ」で一躍有名になったジェームズで、大方の期待通りに「カープールカラオケ」のパロディのコーナーが設けられ、ニール・ダイアモンドの「スィート・キャロライン」をジェニファー・ロペス、ジョン・レジェンド、キース・アーヴァンなどが歌い、会場中が大合唱となった。

また、大統領選後初の授賞式となった今年は、グラミー賞のプロデューサーが、受賞者が受賞スピーチで政治的発言をしてもいいと事前表明しており、ベストR&Bパフォーマンスを受賞したビヨンセはスピーチにおいてホワイトハウスの動向に言及したが、予想されたより、受賞のスピーチやパフォーマンスで政治的なメッセージが伝えられることは多くなかった印象だった。

受賞の内容として印象的なものも多く、昨年亡くなったデヴィッド・ボウイは、最優秀ロックソングも含む5部門で受賞し、音楽部門では以外にも初のグラミー賞受賞となった（今までは、最優秀ビデオ賞などを受賞していた）。

最優秀ラップ・アルバムに輝いたチャンス・ザ・ラッパーのアルバム『Coloring Book』は、ストリーミング配信のみでリリースされた作品でグラミー賞を受賞した初のアルバムとなった。グラミーという名称が蓄音機を表す「グラモフォン」という単語を語源としており、トロフィーも蓄音機をかたどったものであることは有名だが、遂にフィジカルが存在しない作品がグラミーを獲得することとなった。このチャンス・ザ・ラッパーは、5部門にノミネートで、最優秀ラップ・アルバム、最優秀新人、最優秀ラップ・パフォーマンスの3部門を受賞している。

気になる日本人候補者の結果は、最優秀リミックス・レコーディングにノミネートされたstarRoと、最優秀スコア・サウンドトラック・アルバムにノミネートされていた坂本龍一の2人は惜しくも受賞を逃した（ちなみに、坂本龍一はジョン・ウィリアムスの「スターウォーズ/フォースの覚醒」に敗れた。）ものの、ピアニストの内田光子の参加したアルバムがクラシック部門最優秀ソロ・ボーカル・アルバム賞を受賞。内田光子は今回で2度目のグラミーに輝いた。
