HBOオリジナルドラマ『THE LAST OF US』は、2013年にPlayStation（R）3専用タイトルとして発売され、全世界で200部門以上ゲームアワードを受賞したサバイバル・アクションゲーム『The Last of Us』（ザ・ラスト・オブ・アス）をもとにした実写シリーズ。ゲームシリーズのクリエイティブ・ディレクターであるニール・ドラックマン氏と、『チェルノブイリ』（2019）で脚本・製作総指揮を務めたクレイグ・メイジン氏の共同脚本によって製作されている。

人体に寄生する菌類による感染症が発生。パンデミックから20年が経ち文明崩壊したアメリカでは、生存者による勢力争いが起こっていた。生存者のひとりであるジョエルは、「ファイアフライ」の指導者・マーリーンから、身元不明の少女・エリーを隔離地域から脱出させる運び屋を任される。はじめは小さかった仕事は、やがて壮絶な旅へ発展。ふたりは生き残りを懸け、感染者がはびこるアメリカ全土を横断することになる。

本作では、『ゲーム・オブ・スローンズ』『ナルコス』『マンダロリアン』のペドロ・パスカルがジョエル役、『ゲーム・オブ・スローンズ』や『ミルドレッドの魔女学校』のベラ・ラムジーがエリーを演じている。
公開された予告編では、荒廃したアメリカの情景、菌類に寄生され凶暴化した“クリッカー”や“ブローター”など感染者たちとのバトルや、ジョエルたちが道中で様々な人物たちとである様子など、ゲーム版を彷彿とさせるシーンが多数登場している。
